CELI Certification – Certificates of Knowledge of Italian Language
What is the CELI certification?
The Certificates of Knowledge of Italian Language (CELI) are official certifications attesting to a candidate’s level of Italian. They are issued by CVCL – the Centre for Language Evaluation and Certification at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, an institution with long-standing experience in certifying Italian as a second and foreign language.
CELI exams are aimed primarily at non-native speakers of Italian who wish to obtain official certification of their language skills for personal, academic, professional, or other individual purposes.
CELI levels correspond to the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):
General CELI exams
- CELI Impatto – A1: breakthrough level
- CELI 1 – A2: elementary level
- CELI 2 – B1: intermediate level
- CELI 3 – B2: upper-intermediate level
- CELI 4 – C1: advanced level
- CELI 5 – C2: mastery level
CELI Immigrati exams
- CELI Impatto i
- CELI 1 i – A2, for residence permit purposes
- CELI 2 i – B1, for citizenship applications
Exams assess the core language and communication skills expected at each level, testing candidates’ ability to understand and use Italian in real-life communicative situations, both in spoken production and interaction and in written comprehension and production.
La Lingua La Vita, CELI Exam Centre
La Lingua La Vita is a CELI Exam Centre accredited by CVCL at the University for Foreigners of Perugia. At our school in Todi, Umbria, you can therefore register for and sit CELI exams during the sessions scheduled in the official calendar of the University for Foreigners of Perugia (see the official exam calendar).
Being an accredited Exam Centre allows us to support candidates throughout the whole process: from choosing the right level and registering, to targeted preparation and sitting the exam itself.
Our school has a long history of teaching Italian to international students. Since 1988 we have welcomed students from all over the world to Todi, offering Italian language courses in an international environment attentive to each student’s needs and goals.
Prepare for the CELI exam with us
As well as being an official Exam Centre, La Lingua La Vita runs dedicated CELI preparation courses for the different levels.
During the preparation course we work on the skills required by the exam, on familiarity with the different types of test, and on the most effective strategies for tackling them. Courses include targeted exercises, activities on individual language skills, and exam simulations, with the goal of helping every candidate reach the exam with solid, confident preparation.

Dedicated CELI Immigrati and CELI Adolescenti sessions are also scheduled, according to the official CVCL calendar.
