La Lingua La Vita staff organize guided trips to Umbria’s important cities (for example: Spoleto, Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio, Bevagna, Spello, Orvieto) and provide an expert guide who is informed and always ready to respond to questions you may have, including linguistic ones.
During these afternoon excursions, you might visit such things as olive oil mills and wineries to better know how to recognize and taste the best local oils and wines - the latter usually accompanied by delectable bruschette garnished with Umbria’s renowned extra-virgin olive oil and, perhaps, by our local black truffles.
Also on offer are visits to Umbria’s ‘secret’ treasures - those places that visitors might never discover on their own such as Carsulae, a Roman city (now an archaeological site) situated along the ancient Via Flaminia, the road which historically connected Rome to Berlin; the Longobard abbey of San Pietro in Valle (in the Valnerina, or valley of the Nera river); and the suggestive Medieval suburbs and castles dotting the countryside around Todi.
Students can relax in such peaceful ambiance, walking along antique streets and immersing themselves in the fascination of the past.
Our students also may visit and even participate in some of the region’s traditional festivals like the Corsa dei Ceri in Gubbio (a festival of saints in May with some similarity to the famed running of the bulls at Pamplona), the Corsa dell’Anello at Narni (literally the city’s ‘circle fest’), and the Mercato dei Gaite at Bevagna, a costumed heritage festival evoking a picturesque Medieval market fair or the Giostra della Quintana.
Finally, we also offer interesting guided tours of art galleries and artisan shops, where old crafts are still cultivated in the creation of ironmongery, blown glass, hand fired and painted ceramics and fine carpentry products.
