Roman Banquet

A convivial evening set in ancient Rome - at that time banquets were an important occasion for pomp, fun and discussions of important issues and events happening in the society of that day.

We reconstruct a typical dinner of Imperial Rome with three courses including appetizers, the main dish and several subsidiary dishes to conclude the evening. The meal is accompanied by wine seasoned with honey as was customary in ancient times. The menu has been researched and suggested by an archaeologist, based upon historical documents, and is served in the expert’s terraced garden overlooking the Todi countryside (in summer) or inside the house in winter.

During the dinner, a game of twenty questions is played to help improve the everyone’s knowledge of the styles and food tastes of today’s Italy versus those of ancient Rome.
